Have always liked the Killers, but found their albums inconsistent. With Pressure Machine they’ve delivered their best work to date and their growth portends well for the future. This is a concept album and these are story-songs, some happy and uplifting, but many others troubled, gritty and dark. The tales here are current, this is America NOW, warts and all. Of course people will draw comparisons to Bruce Springsteen, but those comparisons limit the reader’s understanding of this music. Brandon Flowers may idolize Bruce - and who can blame him for that - but he’s clearly and entirely his own man, and there is a big, bold, beautiful sweeping grandeur to these songs that is 100% Killers. FANTASTIC. On the short-list for best album of 2021.
