I've used a previous version of this product before, so I wanted to buy the same brand. It works great. Easy to set up and use right away. Ice in the water works better/makes the water colder than the reusable ice cubes. The therapy pad leaked a couple of times, so I called the manufacturer directly and they acknowledged the issue and willingly mailed us a new one right away, free of charge. The Pain Management Technologies Arctic Ice Clear cold therapy device is meant to apply cold to areas of the body suffering from swelling or pain. I got one to help with post-operative healing when I had total knee replacement done on one leg. Here are my impressions. First, and most importantly, the connectors on the inlet/outlet hoses are tricky. They are great when the hoses being connected are aligned and there is no shear or bending stress on the connector. When there is a bending stress on the connection, the silly things come apart and leak. This is a Primary Directive: Let there be NO STRESS on the connectors lest they fail and one become soaked.Alas, as shipped the inlet/outlet hoses are encased in a single neoprene jacket. Simple geometry demands that if the jacketed hoses curve at all, the ends will not be the same length and will force the connectors to bend sideways to accommodate the difference in length, which stresses everything and results in leaks. This can be fixed by simply cutting the two hoses apart, so each can respond to imposed curves independently. This is pretty important: unless the hoses are separated, there is no way I can see to make this product work well (or at all).Other impressions, in no particular order:A little Vaseline on the O-rings helps the connectors connect. An assistant is helpful when applying the therapy pad. This thing is QUIET. Even the end-of-cycle beep is kind of shy and unassuming. The hoses are short enough that there is not a lot of freedom to move around much during therapy.Insulation of the reservoir is pretty good – ice lasts a while, and the thermometer on the display is useful.Unless you have 40 degree (F) cold tap water, you’re going to need to start with extra ice, as the cute little blue cubes that come with the device can’t cool very much water. Keep it cool, yes; get it cool, no.Now, this is not a cheap item. Is it worth it? One can buy lots of bags of ice for what this item costs. Cold therapy is easy, clean and (mostly) dry with this unit, and easy to control (time, intensity). Would I get it again? Probably. Should you? I can’t make that call.Works very well and is easy to use.I wanted to give it a 1,5 star review because yes I did receive a working product. I bought it because my knee gets hot and than pain wakes me up at night. From many devices the Amazon information page does explain the maximum therapy time but unfortunatly for this one this very important piece of information is missing. So when it arrived one of the first things that I read was MAXIMUM THERAPY TIME 90 MINUTES. This was really disappointing because 90 minutes just isn't enough since my knee needs just 2 /3 hours to warm up to the point it wakes me up and often keeps me awake. But even before my knee had the chance to warm up the horrendous BEEP THAT THERAPY TIME IS FINISHED woke me up. Since the maximum was 90 minutes I woke up every 90 minutes if I wanted to keep the machine using. The idea of being able to sleep normally again was still a dream. So actually after one night of using I went to search on google how to stop this beep. I know many people would say it is not possible but it is. If you open the device and then the inner side of the display, there is a little black cylinder (I think it was B1) and if you remove it (it was stuck real tight) all sound is gone for ever (so also warning and any other sounds!). After removing I could sleep with no sound but now the device did no longer wake me up. So either I had to sleep really light and wake up a lot of times or I would sleep normal and wake up too early in the morning with a hot knee and wouldn't be able to sleep again. The display is really bright but if you move a cloth or anything over it you can cover it. I actually first covered it with painters tape so you can still see what is on it but it is less bright. The device might be fine for daytime use if you are able to notice when the therapy time is over. The cooling was actually fine, it was not that hot this time of the year but with the 3 cubes and a iced water bottle the water was still pretty cold after 8 hours. From the start I was really struggling with the hoses. They are really tight and you need a lot of pressure to connect them.I bought the device from the USA to Europe and it was delivered fast. If it was not for the high shipping costs I would have wanted to send it back. I now decided that I will try it in summer when studying (knee swells a bit in heat). I really hope it will be useful for that.I hope for a start they will provide all important information but some product changes might be a good idea too.In conclusion: working device but you need a lot of strenght. Might work fine during the day but this one is not suitable for night time use. I actually already bought another one.+ water stays pretty cold for 8 hours+ fast delivery- 90 min as maximum therapy time- loud beeping, especially when therapy time is overIt works. If you dump a ridiculous amount of ice in it. The 4 plastic cubes it comes with do not even begin to fill the need. For this amount of money send enough cubes to fill the thing. I dumped my entire ice maker in on top of the plastic cubes and it’s still not quite cold enough to do much good. So I bought a countertop ice maker too…and now I can get it almost cold enough. Lol. I’d be better off just putting all that ice in the tub and soaking. Disappointed. I will keep it and keep trying…because I’m injured and have no choice..but very disappointed with how inefficient this system is for the money.
