I’ve never been to Jamaica, so I don’t know what the coffee tastes like there and I haven’t tried any other brand of blue mountain. But this is incredible tasting coffee. Up until now, my favorite coffee was the German, Jacob’s Krönung, which is not bitter, even when made strong, is somewhat mild and is very smooth. This particular brand of Blue Mountain Coffee has blown Jacob’s out of first place as my favorite coffee, which is unfortunate considering it’s 60$ a pound price tag (Jacob’s is 10$/lb). My coffee budget will necessarily need to be adjusted, there is no choice in the matter, two cups of it has changed my coffee preference forever. I will alternate between Blue Mountain and Jacob’s from now on. I used a French press with 3 and 4 tablespoons of a medium-fine grind each steeped in 12 oz water heated to a measured 200 F for 4 minutes. Both of the resulting cups were smooth, kind of chocolaty and mildly sweet, with an incredible aroma. 4 tablespoons resulted in a very rich brew that was almost too rich and 3 tablespoons produced a delicious medium strength brew that was plenty rich enough for my taste. As a comparison, I typically drink a strong, medium-dark to dark roast cup of joe such as Starbucks Morning Joe dark roast (my favorite SB variety) or the Canadian brand, Tim Horton’s dark roast.
