I would describe this music as modern folk-rock, mostly piano with the addition of other instrumentation, like drums, acoustic guitar, even banjo and horns. I have to admit that I absolutely LOVE Matthieu Beaumont's beautiful voice. This self-titled album, Tricot Machine, starts off with a couple of peppy, upbeat songs that one finds oneself humming the rest of the day after hearing them. The album slows down mid-way through and the tone becomes a little more intense and heavy-themed. The gems are the first three songs on the album (not counting the one-and-a-half min. intro.), although I personally also really like the sweetly romantic and nostalgic (if I had any attachment to Montreal) "Les Peaux de Lievres" and the catchy "Beau Temps Mauvais Temps"...I find myself singing the chorus, "Jour apres jour..." when I'm not thinking about much else.I docked a star because the price is a little higher than I normally would pay for a CD and that it wasn't available to download electronically. It does, however, make me want to learn French.
