The surface on this honeycomb seems flat across the surface. Material has a tendency to catch on the sharp intersections sometimes but I expect this to be consistent with all of these type products. In my case I found that though elevated, smoke gathers in the honeycomb cells and causes a little staining on the back of my project sometimes. I'll be adding some rubber feet to the corners to get some airflow underneath to help evacuate the smoke better.
